Yogmaya (Jogmaya) Temple
Hindu Temple
Description
With legendary claims to a history that dates back 5000 years ago, the Yogmaya Temple holds a special place in history and religious practice today.
Ancient worshippers gathered to worship Yogmaya, the incarnate form of Durga Krishna's sister. It is believe to be one of the temples destroyed during the reign of Mahmud Ghazni and the Mamluks (Slave Dynasty). So while the original Temple no longer stands, there is a high probability its structural remnants live on the Qutub Minar complex. Later it was rebuilt, and its long standing worship continued.
Along with Qutbuddin Dargah and Jahaz Mahal, the Yogmaya Temple plays an important role in the yearly Phool Waalon ki Sair ('Florist Festival'), where people of various walks of life and tradition join together in celebration.
